Once again, the Politics team will be at the annual BISA conference, engaging as both researchers and editors.
On Thursday morning, Amanda Chisholm will be presenting a paper as part of the panel on ‘Feminist Global Political Economies of the Everyday: Practices of work, mobility & resistance’. Laura Routley, in her role as the co-convener of the Africa & International Studies Working Group will be presenting a paper on the panel ‘Security, Identity and Practices of Power and Ordering in Africa’ which takes place Wednesday afternoon. Laura will be serving as the discussant for the panel ‘Visioning’ African development: the continent’s (re)turn towards long-term national development strategies’ on Thursday morning. Neil Wilson will be presenting a paper Friday afternoon as a part of the panel on ‘Refugees, States and Policies’. Sarina Theys will also be on-site, wearing her BISA conference assistant hat, after several long months of helping to manage the organisation of the conference.
On the editorial side, Kyle Grayson will be participating in the by invitation only Postgraduate Network’s ‘Meet the Editors’ event Thursday afternoon. Here, he will be providing feedback on draft papers submitted by early career colleagues. Politics has participated in these events for the last four years and several of the papers that came to us through this channel have been published by the journal including pieces by Felix Rösch, Precious Chatterje-Doody, and Jennifer Thomson. Finally, after finishing the ‘Meet the Editors’ event, Kyle will be chairing a ‘Question Time’ style roundtable in the final slot of Thursday afternoon on ‘Everything You’ve Wanted to Know About Being an Editor (But Were Afraid to Ask)’? Panellists, all of whom are editors of leading journals in the discipline, will answer a series on questions on issues like the benefits and challenges of editing, the role of the Research Excellence Framework in editorial practices, the state of scholarly publishing, and the role that journals can play in addressing equality, diversity, and inclusion issues within the field.
